A group of 20 bikers led by Kaz
Mamon, a business owner and factory worker from Michigan, made the 6-hour trip
to Pittsburgh from Michigan with 20 laptop computers strapped to their motorcycles.
(Actually, the computers traveled in a van provided by GM so they wouldn't feel
the bumps quite as much.) The computers were donated to Childrens Hospital
of Pittsburgh, specifically 8 North, Childrens hematology/oncology unit,
where Brian spent so much of his time. Fred Morden organized the donation from
Mamon Ride to help fulfill
one of the BMF's major goals.
The bikers arrived at the main entrance of the hospital with a roar and were greeted by patients, their families, doctors, nurses, and of course, Jamin, Dawn, and Fred representing the Brian Morden Foundation. Twenty laptops donated to Mamon by EDS and General Motors Corp. were presented to Children's Hospital in memory of Brian. Sharon Smarto from Children's Hospital thanked the bikers as did Fred Morden from the Brian Morden foundation. Jamin handed out gold ribbons, the national symbol of cancer awareness, to all the riders, and Dawn gave Kaz a certificate from BMF on behalf of the Morden family. One of the motorcycles was wheeled inside the lobby where numerous people had their pictures taken.
The bikers visited all children on the 8th floor who were able to receive visitors. Gift bags, smiles, music, and most importantly <3 were given to all present. Brian, your legacy continues, and today, it did so in a way we know you are proud of.
